Curious? Come backstage:
Photographed by the acclaimed duo Neumann & Rodtmann, this series captures elite football professionals in a rare, intimate moment—midway between the roar of the arena and the solitude of the locker room.
Before any work on the images could begin, it was essential to imagine what this authentic photographic foundation —studio shots— could become. Where could this moment of intimacy take place? After we explored various ideas, everything fell into place with our final narrative concept.
The post-production process was guided by a singular goal: to make the viewer feel as though they are standing right there — face to face with the player, in a fleeting, personal exchange. Each image was meticulously crafted to preserve the authenticity of the portrait while enhancing its emotional resonance.
To achieve this, the transformation required more than retouching. Backgrounds were not merely replaced but thoughtfully designed to subtly evoke the atmosphere of this in-between zone. Light was introduced or shaped to suggest the presence of the arena or the cool shadows of concrete corridors—all while maintaining the intimacy of the moment.
Color grading became a tool of emotional translation. Each portrait was individually treated, with tailored palettes that reinforced the player’s mood and personality. Lighting direction, tone curves, and chromatic accents worked together to emphasize the feeling of closeness—as if the viewer is sharing a private second with the athlete.
The result is a visual experience that transcends traditional sports photography. It invites the viewer into a deeply personal moment—where the distance between professional and fan collapses into a shared breath, a direct look, a silent connection.
Making Of NETFLIX XXL Billboard ‘THE SWIMMERS’
A fantastic collaboration with agency XY: For the launch of the film The Swimmers, the creative briefing focused on a powerful idea — to link the sisters’ escape from Syria across the danger of the sea with their arrival in the professional training pool of the national swim team as they prepared for the World Championships in Rio.
At Sublime, we took this concept and brought it to life. Starting from a single grounded aerial shot of the swimmers, we developed the entire visual around it — using high-resolution stock material, creative compositing, and dynamic lighting to craft a striking and emotionally charged image. The final result captures the essence of survival and transformation in a single overwhelming visual statement.
We love telling a complete story through a single image — and we’re proud to have been the right creative partner for XY and Netflix on this powerful project.
A fantastic project under an extremely tight deadline:
From a rough sketch inspired by the initially planned ParkIn Hotel, given full trust by Agency Heimat Active we created this 700 sqm high-resolution billboard in just four days until approval by client for the iconic Kranzler Eck in Berlin.
What started as a rough sketch quickly had to be transformed to suit the distinctive architecture of Kranzler Eck. We commissioned a photographer to capture the actual building, providing a realistic backdrop of the fassade for the composition. Suitable stock imagery was sourced to ensure ultra-high-resolution quality, and footballer Thomas Müller was creatively retouched and interpolated into the scene.
The final image came together as a powerful visual, subtly incorporating the colors of the German flag to form a “5” — a hopeful symbol of Germany’s pursuit of its fifth World Cup star.
The billboard was finished just in time. The fifth star, however, remained a dream…
